From HPS to TCNJ and London

Sydney Lidz, Class of 2020

Sydney Lidz, an ambitious graduate of Hunterdon Prep's class of 2020, is currently at The College of New Jersey majoring in Elementary Education and Psychology. <we need a little more background from Sydney or a staff member who knows her to add some additional human interest elements.> She recently spent six weeks in London as part of a study abroad program. We asked Sydney to share some of her experiences during her time at HPS.

What are you most proud of during your time at HPS?

During my time at HPS I was most proud of my work with the YMCA Child Care Center. HPS was able to help me gain an internship where I volunteered in the preschool every week. Childcare was something I was interested in. I was really proud of myself for doing this because I knew I was helping a lot of kids but also helping myself learn more about teaching and what kind of teacher I wanted to be, all while balancing my other academic courses and music lab.

What is something at HPS that you loved being a part of?

The music program.

If you had to do it all again, what would you do differently?

If I had to do it all again, I would have focused less on what everyone else was doing after graduating and focused more on what was best for me. I wish that I would have allowed myself to understand that it is ok to do things at your own pace. For example, although I went to the 12 plus program, originally I was extremely against it. I felt like I had to go to college right after graduation and follow the traditional timeline. However, taking part in 12 plus was a wonderful experience for me despite having to defer from TCNJ for a year.
