what we believe

Two students working on a science project together

we believe it starts with a vision

At the Hunterdon Preparatory School, we believe each student has a powerful story to tell.  We meet each student where they are and provide opportunities for new beginnings. We create an environment where students can cross the pathway to discovering who they are and what they can be.  At HPS nothing is etched in stone, everyone is always evolving, and each day provides a chance for new experiences and accomplishments. We work together to develop the whole person - a healthy mind, a healthy body, and a healthy spirit.  Ultimately our mission is to prepare our students to be successful in a complex and rapidly changing society.

we believe teamwork is essential

Student instruction at Hunterdon Prep is a collaborative process between teachers and students. Coursework assignments are highly personalized to address the goals, objectives and instructional methods identified in each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

we believe in the power of individual and small group instruction

Using a combination of individual and small group instruction, our students learn in a non-competitive, supportive environment that enables them to relax, focus, and succeed at challenging academic tasks that were once a source of frustration.

we believe in personal commitment

Success builds upon success. At Hunterdon Prep, we foster and reinforce a personal commitment to learning. We work with each student to build skills, broaden knowledge, and build confidence in his or her ability to succeed.

we believe in dedicated teachers & staff

The foundation for our success begins with a highly qualified, dedicated, and compassionate staff committed to helping students discover and achieve their potential.  Our teachers deliver individual, differentiated instruction to all students. Each professional staff member is licensed by the New Jersey State Department of Education.

we believe in a robust academic curriculum

At Hunterdon Preparatory School, we provide our students with a curriculum that is designed to prepare them for the future. Our curriculum aligns with the New Jersey Department of Education curriculum standards.  Students must complete specific content area courses in order to meet their sending district's high school graduation requirements. Course content may be modified to meet the needs of individual students as identified in their IEPs.

we believe in academic enrichment

Afternoons at Hunterdon Prep are important. They are intentionally reserved for special interest activities and physical education. Special interest electives give students the opportunity to discover and develop their talents in art, music, writing, drama, technology, community service and more.

We offer our students a variety of physical education electives including fishing, bowling, outdoor education, hiking, yoga & aerobics, and weight & fitness training.

we believe in working towards the future

Helping our students prepare for life after Hunterdon Prep is a priority for our staff. We employ a full-time transition instructor to guide students toward useful and satisfying career and/or higher education paths. Our middle school students focus on career exploration while our high school students receive more individualized planning to help them shape their post high school plans. Throughout the school year, our transition instructor meets with students individually and in groups, organizes visits to college fairs and campuses, and hosts guest speakers from a variety of career fields, including all branches of the U.S. military.
