our program

At Hunterdon Prep we work together ... students, parents, teachers, and local school districts ... to provide a place where students feel valued and respected, where they are not judged and where differences are understood and embraced.

We set the bar high for academic and personal success and we provide each student with the time, support and tools to discover their potential and unleash the best in themselves and others. When everyone does their part to create a tolerant, supportive community, the whole is always bigger than the sum of its parts.

who we teach

Our students are complex learners who have found it difficult to succeed in a traditional academic environment. They are bright and capable students with challenges that have prevented them from finding success in other schools. At HPS we believe that these challenges do not define our students or what they can accomplish. We provide students with the tools to become responsible for their own self-care and to become contributing members of the greater community.

Our students have bright futures and choose from a variety of paths after graduation which include college, technical schools, military service, and the workforce. Whatever path a student chooses, Hunterdon Prep is committed to helping them achieve their post graduation goals.

what we teach

The curriculum at Hunterdon Prep is aligned with the New Jersey Department of Education's standards for middle school and high school. Our students receive individualized instruction using grade level curriculum in a non-competitive, collaborative learning environment.  Instruction is designed to have useful, authentic application and value in the life of the learner. Our strong academic program is integrated with individual and group student counseling, and a variety of dynamic electives and enrichment activities that match the interests of our students, including museum trips, kayaking adventures and creative expression programs.

how we do it

At HPS we support our students with skilled teachers, staff and counselors who provide a relational approach to individualizing education for each student. We combine this relational approach with a robust academic curriculum, group counseling, creative electives and enrichment classes that allow students to challenge themselves and to grow to their fullest potential.

Our academics and enrichment classes are supplemented with personal development opportunities that help our students prepare for life after graduation. Each step of the way we are guiding our students in skills that are necessary for academic success and personal confidence, Our transition programs give students the tools they need to complete college applications, create resumes, interview with potential employers and perform to their highest abilities in a workplace setting.
