Our field trip to Mrs. Glassman’s house – by Ally M. and Owen R.
As we drove into the residential community that Mr. and Mrs. Glassman lived in, we had no idea what laid beyond the large hill that separated our bus from the mansion that was to come. After much anticipation, we reached the peak of the hill and gasped in awe. What lay before us was a large mansion, caressed with multiple nutcrackers and other festive decorations. The driveway was lined with wooden soldiers. Suddenly, we pulled into the beautiful driveway and entered through one of the five large, pale white garage doors. Walking into the house, you can feel all the holiday spirit within their home. Seeing all of the jaw dropping decorations put a smile on everyone’s faces. Mrs. Glassman has two beautiful dogs, Theo, a very loving Poodle, and Jasmine, an extremely large, but friendly, Great Dane.
Soon after, we found ourselves in the middle of a grand ballroom with a large buffet waiting for us. Before we dug into the delicious penne ala-vodka and sausage and peppers, Mrs. Glassman had a few words of welcome that truly inspired us all. I learned that the secret to success is to work hard, persevere, and never forget where you came from. She inspired me and the rest of the group. After learning how she worked her way to the top of the socio-economic status, we were able to fill our plates with delicious food, courtesy of Mrs. Glassman. Feeling extremely full and joyful, our group proceeded to the tour of the decorated house. The first room we visited was filled with hundreds of Disney characters and multiple dolls. Also, the room exhibited a large Christmas tree decorated with hundreds of Disney-inspired ornaments. Then we made our way towards the entertainment room, filled with more ornaments and decorations, as well as an abundance of Christmas trees. Afterwards, our group relocated to the lowest floor, where three elegant and charming villages awaited us.
The first village represented the origin of Christmas, located in the settlement of Bethlehem, Israel. The second village represented the surrounding towns in the area. Not only did the lights dim and brighten according to the sun setting and rising in the towns, but Mrs. Glassman promised to change the name of the school in the village to the Hunterdon Preparatory School. We were all extremely surprised and grateful and thanked her as we walked to the final village. The last village was a representation of New York City. After our tour, we all received gifts from Mrs. Glassman, which was extremely kind of her.
I felt like I left her beautiful and festive home happier, and more willing to work on my goals, then when I arrived. Overall, this was a fantastic experience, and I would definitely return.
