Holidays at HPS - By Mickie K.

As the holiday bustle clogs our ears, and our innocent greediness fills our hearts, it’s good to think about the true meaning of the season. At Hunterdon Prep, we consider how lucky we are to be welcomed into Mrs. Glassman’s beautiful home and to be humbled to hear of her past struggles. Our chest becomes filled with excitement as we see the biggest amount of HPS alumni to attend our festive Thanksgiving celebration and share their stories of life after graduation. Our hearts become more festive as we are led by Mrs. Medina in singing Christmas carols to our outside community. It warms our souls as we see happiness fill the faces of those from Helping Hands, as they open the presents we gave them that they normally would have gone without. And, we consider how blessed we are as Mary, a woman who was born legally blind, tells us her brave story. However, as we see the beautiful lights being put on our community Christmas tree by Mr. Jacobson, we realize how lucky we are to be part of the HPS family, especially around the holidays. The laughs throughout the hallways from both other students and teachers is enough to make any member of that community feel at home.

What does Christmas mean to me? - By Jaunise L.

Christmas is one of many holidays that I get to spend with my family. The little things don't matter around this time. What matters is the affection we show to each other. Christmas to me really isn't about materialistic things, but much more about seeing and laughing with family that I don't see that often. In fact, this Christmas season is going to be a lot different for me. This year I don't really want anything  I would rather help someone instead. As you get older you realize gifts and toys do not  make you a happier person. Most of the time it is only a short-lived happiness, but when you give the gift of yourself it brings many rewards to you and others. This Christmas I’m going to see the true value of the holiday season.
