Poetry Cafe, unique to HPS, encourages creativity, self-expression, and helps to develop greater self-esteem.
Poetry Café, unique to our Hunterdon Prep community, has been created to develop creativity, self-expression and greater self-esteem. Popular with many of our students, Poetry Cafe takes place in the afternoon during electives; light refreshments are served during a built-in break. Students are encouraged to bring in poetry that they have either written or chosen from a variety of sources. It is a great opportunity to practice public speaking skills at the podium and strengthen interpersonal and communication skills in the process.
Ben Lerner, American poet, novelist, essayist and critic, described reading and writing poetry as a creative experience that offers an organizing process for gaining self-esteem. There is a body of data to support this theory and many of our students have benefited from the process over the last few years.
In October, many of our students will have the exciting opportunity to attend the Dodge Poetry Festival being held at NJ PAC in Newark! Learn more about Dodge Poetry by visiting their website www.dodgepoetry.org
Our next Poetry Cafe is being held on September 28!!
