Thanks to Mr. Halloran's eagle eye, this Northern Red Salamander was rescued from our parking lot in the morning and spent the day in science classes on Friday!
The Northern Red Salamander is widespread and common in New Jersey. In the fall adults, who have been living on land, will return to the streams for breeding and egg laying. They move at night but the recent cold temperatures may have prevented this one from making it all the way across the parking lot by morning.
