Announcing the Retirement of Toby R. Loyd

Dear parents and guardians,

Please join the Hunterdon Preparatory School’s (HPS) Board of Trustees and staff in expressing our best wishes to our President and Executive Director, Toby Ray Loyd, who will retire on June 30, 2022.

Mr. Loyd joined the HPS staff as a Language Arts teacher in January of 1985 and became the school’s Executive Director in 1995. We are grateful for his thirty-seven years of service educating and shaping the lives of the many students who knew him. His legacy will be forever reflected in the lives of those he has influenced.

Mr. Loyd shares with you, “It has been an honor and a privilege to spend the past thirty-seven years of my career in the service of the students of the Hunterdon Preparatory School. The chance to spend so much of my life in the energizing company of the most inspiring kids, families and colleagues that I will ever know has been a perfect fit for me from beginning to end.”

As Mr. Loyd begins a new chapter in his life in coastal South Carolina, we wish him health, happiness, calm seas to paddle and lots of great music.

HPS will be entering a new chapter under the leadership of Alisa Kopacz. The Board is pleased to announce that Ms. Kopacz will be serving as the school’s Interim Executive Director starting July 1, 2022.  This past year, Ms. Kopacz has worked closely with both Mr. Loyd and the Board to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. Ms. Kopacz began her career with HPS in 2003 as a School Social Worker and has been Supervisor of Counseling since 2019. She also serves as a member of the school’s Administrative Team. Her nineteen years of experience in developing the school’s culture and programs will guide her in carrying on the HPS community we all know and value.

Ms. Kopacz would like to share her thoughts about the upcoming transition. “I am humbled and grateful to step into the role of Interim Executive Director of Hunterdon Preparatory School. For nearly two decades, I have had the privilege of working in this unique school community surrounded by talented, creative and resilient students and the most professional and caring staff. As a team, our tradition of excellence and educating “outside the box” will continue. I look forward to leading this very special community.”
