Today the Hawks of Hunterdon Preparatory School descended into the Ken Lockwood Gorge. There, under the guidance of Debbie and Mary Ellen from the Raritan Headwaters Association, they got into the cold clear waters and used kick nets and strainers to collect specimens of invertebrates to determine the health of that stretch South Branch of the Raritan River. By identifying the myriad of different species collected, and considering the river’s vast overall biodiversity, it was determined that the South Branch in the Ken Lockwood Gorge is in “excellent” health. Special thanks to the Raritan Headwaters Association for coming out to share their time and expertise with the Hawks.
