Summer Discovery 2025 - July 7- August 15
10:00 - 2:00, Monday through Friday
It's hard to believe that we only have 2 weeks of school left! That means we are in full Summer Discovery mode over here. Our Summer Discovery program is such an important aspect of our school and we work hard to give all of our students a fun and engaging summer that supports their social and emotional goals. Having a routine and staying connected to our community has shown to be a huge advantage for many students to avoid any regression over the long summer months.
Today, Tuesday May 27th, your child will participate in an assembly where they will hear some exciting presentations from the staff members who will be working with them this summer. In anticipation of this event, I wanted to provide a glimpse into what your child can expect to learn during these presentations.
CLASSES:
During their class time, your child can expect to work on things such as a collective literary magazine. The magazine will feature creative writing (poems, short stories), short essays, art, and photography. Students will have the opportunity to research a historical or current event of their choosing to create articles, writing pieces, or stories fashioned after a newspaper or magazine.
They can also expect a robust science experience, complete with the exploration of Biology, Chemistry and Physics through various activities, discussions, experiments, labs and trips.
Our math teachers are returning to offer extra support or revisit topics that your child may have struggled with during the school year. We will continue to offer our variety of fun and engaging electives with some new options to check out!
THEME WEEKS:
One of the most popular pieces of our program is our amazing theme weeks.
Your child will have the option to participate in our theme week activities that include an “art hodgepodge” that will be a variety of different art activities and projects designed to ignite their creativity and imagination.
During game week, we will play (and learn) old classic board games as well as new and strategy based games for small groups of players. Team, game-show-style games will be offered for larger groups and a minute to Win It Tournament.
On our last week we will enjoy Pet week, with several projects related to pets and a trip to Tabby’s Place!
We are also looking forward to a fun filled week of Music!
TRIPS:
This may be THE most popular aspect of our Summer Discovery program, the trips! Currently we are scheduled to go swimming at a local pool, play laser tag, go bowling, volunteer at Grow a Row, participate in events at Raritan Headwaters, Yestercades, Tabby’s Place, kayaking, hiking and we are still working on more…
Did I mention we will have 3 chickens staying on campus with us this summer?!
Hopefully you enjoyed reading about all of our fun activities for this upcoming Summer Discovery program and that your child comes home and talks about it with you. Please keep in mind that the determination of eligibility for this program is IEP driven and should be discussed at your annual IEP meeting. If you have questions about this, please reach out to me at rgeissinger@hunterdonprep.org or 908-832-7200.
