Meet Our New Guidance Counselor

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Melissa Evancho and I am the new Guidance Counselor for Hunterdon Prep. I am so excited to be a part of the Hunterdon Prep family, and getting to know and work with every student and their family.

I received my Masters in Counseling and School Counselor Certification from Rider University and have over 15 years of experience as a guidance counselor, which has been at the middle and high school levels. I have had the opportunity to work in both public and private school settings. Prior to coming to Hunterdon Prep, I worked for the Hunterdon County Vocational School District with their Full-Time Academy programs, and prior to that worked for 9 years as Transition Coordinator/School Counselor at a private therapeutic school in NJ. My professional passions are in post-secondary and career planning.  I look forward to bringing these passions into my role at Hunterdon Prep and working with the students to best prepare them for the future. In addition, my role will also include test coordination, scheduling and tracking graduation requirements, and overall developing the guidance program at HPS.

What I love most about the middle and high school levels are the students' ability to learn more about themselves. This is a great time for students to discover their interests and plan for the future. I am excited to meet with students individually, in small groups, and in classrooms. As a  Guidance Counselor, it is my responsibility to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. It is important to me to work closely as a team with parents/guardians, teachers, administration, and staff to ensure your student is receiving all the support they need to guide them through these middle school & high school years.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at mevancho@hunterdonprep.org or 908-832-7200 extension 16. I look forward to working with you all and getting to know your students throughout the school year! I hope to see and meet many of you at Back to School Night on September 26th.

Sincerely,

Melissa Evancho
