Summer Discovery 2022

Summer Discovery

(Hunterdon Preparatory’s Extended School Year Program)

July 5 - August 15, 2022

Happy New Year! I hope you and your families had a happy and healthy holiday season. As we begin to look forward to the warmer weather, I thought it would be a good opportunity to touch base with you about our 2022 Summer Discovery program.

The dates of this year’s Summer Discovery program are Tuesday, July 5 through Monday, August 15, 2022. We will meet five days a week from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and are planning for in-person instruction and activities this summer.

Whether your child is in need of credit recoupment after a couple of tough years or just needs the routine of school and the social advantages that come along with it, this program is for them.

During our six-week program, we provide students with an opportunity to maintain the academic, social and behavioral progress made throughout the regular school year in order to prevent regression over the summer months. Students remain actively engaged with their peers and our school community to prevent loneliness, boredom, and isolation.

Each student will receive creative and “out of the box” instruction in English, math, science, and history. We will continue to provide group counseling and access to our counselors throughout the summer program. Additionally, students will be able to take advantage of STEM classes, art, and music theme weeks, along with special interest electives throughout the summer. The theme weeks and electives are carefully crafted and tailored to meet additional therapeutic goals. Students who are continuing onto the 12+ program should plan to attend Summer Discovery in order to prepare for their fall semester schedule at RVCC, practice for any placement exams, maintain internships, or secure internships for September.

Our students always look forward to our hiking and kayaking trips, which support the development of relationships and pro-social behavior to complement the regularly scheduled program. We are currently working to schedule other fun activities that will be presented later this year. We are always open to student’s ideas as well, so please encourage your child to share any ideas they have for electives or activities.

Eligibility for participation in the Summer Discovery program is IEP driven and needs to be discussed and approved by your sending district. Transportation will be provided if approved. If you have any questions or would like more information about the program, please direct your request to me at rgeissinger@hunterdonprep.org or 908-832-7200 ext. 16.

Looking forward to another great summer with everyone!
