COVID-19 School Closure Preparedness Plan

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to be a health-related concern across the world and has now become a reality for us in New Jersey.

On March 5, 2020, the New Jersey Commissioner of Education sent out a guidance letter to educators regarding the possibility of school closures and the continuity of education should that happen.  The guidance emphasizes that the most important things for schools to do now is to plan and prepare.  Schools are to develop a School Closure Preparedness Plan that would allow schooling to continue in the event that the Department of Health or a health officer of our jurisdiction institutes a public health-related closure.  The plan allows for online home instruction to count towards the 180 school day requirement.

To this end, our Administrative Team met yesterday to further discuss our preparedness implementation plan.  Our plan consists of a therapeutic component and an academic component.  The therapeutic component will allow counseling staff to touch base with each student on a daily basis via phone and e-mail.  The academic component will utilize online instruction for students via Google Classroom and e-mail.

Please note that in order for our faculty and staff to finalize our plans for therapeutic services and academic instruction, we will have an Early Dismissal at 12:30 on Monday, March 16.

In the event that the Hunterdon Preparatory School experiences a public health-related school closure, you will be notified via our Blackboard Connect automated notification system.  At that time you will receive detailed instructions on how your child is to access our remote academic and counseling services.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time.  We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, and we will keep you updated as new information and guidance becomes available.

Sincerely,

Toby Loyd
