who we are
HPS students are unique, bright and richly talented They are capable, complex learners who have struggled to access their gifts, talents and abilities in traditional school settings. HPS students respond to a relational and experiential teaching approach that focuses on abilities. Our students benefit from a social learning environment that values acceptance, responsibility and respect above all other outcomes.
Hunterdon Prep's academic curriculum is aligned with the New Jersey Department of Education's standards for middle school and high school. Students receive individualized instruction using grade level curriculum in a non-competitive, collaborative learning environment. Instruction is designed to have useful, authentic application and value in the life of the learner. Student instruction is a collaborative process between teachers and students. Coursework assignments are highly personalized to address the goals, objectives and instructional methods identified in each student’s IEP. Using a combination of individual and small group instruction, our students learn in a non-competitive, supportive environment that enables them to relax, focus and succeed at challenging academic tasks that were once a source of frustration.
What makes HPS unique is the emphasis we place on teaching our students to practice direct respectful communication skills as the best way to create and maintain healthy connections with others. Students learn to work together to create an community that meets everyone's needs.
HPS staff and students work together to create a school environment where everyone feels valued and respected. This supportive environment is highly conducive to learning at all levels.
